In the last years, the specialized agency has helped tens of thousends of people all over the world. Today, UNHCO staff and Special Representatives in more than 50 countries continue to help.

The mandate of UNHCO is to raise levels of nutrition, improve medical care in emerging nations, better the lives of rural populations and contribute to the establishment of hospitals. UNHCO supports projects worldwide to provide people in third world countries with clean water, sanitary facilities, sufficient food and satisfactory medical care.

UNHCO is an international relief organization committed to global development of medical care as well as preventive health care for emerging nations. UNHCO is responsible for providing leadership on global health matters, providing support to countries and monitoring health trends. The representatives of its member states meet at the annual UNHCO-Conference. The Conference elects a Secretary-General to an eight year term of office. The current Secretary-General of UNHCO is H.E. Mr. Hamit Manar.
